Disruptive Tech On Preventing Another Felicity Ace

The devastating impact of serious industrial incidents was once again highlighted by Felicity Ace. This cargo ship was carrying nearly 4,000 luxury cars but had to be abandoned following a large fire on board. It drifted across the ocean for some weeks before sinking in March along with its valuable cargo and fuel. Despite posing a serious hazard to the marine environment, and costing businesses millions, events like these are still relatively common. How can disruptive technology tackle challenges like this?

This is the main theme that will be examined in detail at the Safetytech Hub during the Safer World Conference, taking place on 10th May at London’s Old Billingsgate Market. Organized by Safetytech Accelerator in partnership with the Financial Times, and hosted by Lloyd’s Register Foundation, the event will bring together thought leaders responsible for safety, risk, and growth across critical sectors, including energy, transport, and construction. Guest speakers will focus on the opportunities for digital solutions to transform these sectors during increasingly complex trading conditions.

Speakers will also discuss the opportunities for tech entrepreneurs to help solve some of the biggest problems in industrial safety and risk. The event comes at an important time with many companies facing pressure to meet ESG targets and net-zero emissions against a complicated geopolitical situation, not to mention other ambitious plans to rethink traditional ways of working.

The event will include two key morning discussions. At 10 am, delegates will hear from leading industry figures, covering the future of industrial safety and its ongoing challenges. Following at 11.30 am, established Safetytech entrepreneurs will take to the stage to explain how they identified an opportunity and developed a solution that could be scaled up.

Industry panelists include James Pomeroy, Director of Global Health and Safety at ARUP, and Pradeep Chawla, Managing Director for Group QHSE and Training at Anglo-Eastern Ship Management. They will be joined by the head of Safetytech Accelerator, Dr. Maurizio Pilu, and moderator Harry Dempsey, an industry reporter for the Financial Times.

Entrepreneurs include Hao Zheng, CEO and founder at Robok, and Johnny McCord, CEO of Loadsure. They will be joined by Daniel Ng from Cyber Owl and Dor Raviv, CTO at ORCA AI. Covering a range of industrial sectors, these business leaders will provide a unique perspective on the market’s opportunities and challenges, as well as the type of thinking needed to bring good ideas to market.

“growth in industrial sectors as they discuss real-life scenarios and their views of the future. They will explore ways to build resilience and achieve better, safer, and more sustainable outcomes for workforces, organizations, and the wider world. Our entrepreneur speakers will also show where innovative thinking can transform how risk is managed in today’s uncertain market, helping to unlock the massive growth forecast in the coming years. Safetytech Accelerator is committed to bringing leaders together to demonstrate how technology could solve gritty problems faced by industry and events like this could be the crucial first step towards developing effective real-world solutions.”

Dr. Maurizio Pilu, Managing Director at Safetytech Accelerator

Safetytech Accelerator is a non-profit established by Lloyd’s Register. It is the first fully dedicated technology accelerator focused on safety and risk in industrial sectors. Its mission is to make the world safer and more sustainable through the wider adoption of Safetytech.
